Microsoft Update on Windows 11: App Pinning & Customization of Default Apps

Microsoft is working on improving Windows to improve user experience on their PC. Users will soon be able to control default app settings and pin apps to the taskbar in the coming months. Here are what you should know as a Windows 11 user.

Microsoft, in a blog post, made the announcement that they will be bringing the long-awaited Windows 11 features not just for the benefit of users, but also developers. Developers stand to gain the new feature of setting deep link URI for applications. While regular users will be able to pin any apps on their Desktop, their Start menu, and their Taskbar.


Microsoft bringing a new publicly available API for developers will help them pin selected apps to either primary or secondary tiles to the Taskbar. These new features will be available on the Windows Insider Dev Channel flight in the coming months before it is available for all users.


Developers will also be able to use Microsoft's new feature that allows them to make their app the default or pin their app to the taskbar, thereby providing a smooth user experience across all apps.


In other news, Microsoft has announced Microsoft 365 Copilot which is an AI-powered upgrade for the company's productivity apps to help users AI-powered upgrade for the company's productivity apps with the aim of generating documents easily, spreadsheets,  presentations, draft emails, or coordinate meetings and surface relevant content on Microsoft Teams.
