How to Check Your MTN Number

How to check MTN number - MTN office in Nigeria
  1. Open your phone dialer.
  2. Dial *663# and press call.
  3. Your MTN number is displayed on the screen.

If *663# doesn't work: dial *123#, open the account or tools option in the menu, and choose My Number. MTN updates this menu from time to time, so the option name can change slightly, but "My Number" is always inside it.

How to Check Your Glo Number

  1. Open your phone dialer.
  2. Dial *135*8# and press call.
  3. Your Glo number shows on the screen instantly.

If *135*8# doesn't respond: dial *777#, Glo's main self-service menu, and look for the option that shows your number or account information.

How to Check Your Airtel Number

  1. Dial *121#.
  2. Select Manage your Line (on some lines it shows as My Account).
  3. Choose My Number. Your Airtel number is displayed.

Shortcut: on many Airtel lines, *121*3*4# takes you straight to your number without going through the menu.

How to Check Your 9mobile (T2) Number

9mobile rebranded to T2 in August 2025, and the change is being rolled out in phases. If you still have a 9mobile SIM, use these steps:

  1. Dial *248# and press call.
  2. Your number appears on the screen.

Alternative: dial *200#, open Account Information, then select My Number.

Other Ways to Check Your Phone Number (No Code Needed)

Check your phone number on the SIM card pack
  • Call or flash a friend: call someone close by. Your number shows on their screen. This uses a little airtime.
  • Check the SIM pack: new SIM cards usually come in a pack or card holder with the number printed on it.
  • Android settings: go to Settings → About phone and look for the phone number or SIM status. On some phones it shows "Unknown" because the number isn't stored on the SIM.
  • iPhone settings: go to Settings → Phone → My Number.
  • Customer care centre: visit your network's office with a valid ID (NIN slip, driver's licence or passport) if nothing else works.

Code Not Working? Try These Fixes

  • Dual-SIM phones: make sure you dial from the correct SIM. Many phones ask which SIM to use; pick the one you want to check.
  • No network bars: USSD codes need signal. Move to a better spot, or switch Airplane mode on and off.
  • "Connection problem or invalid MMI code": restart your phone, then dial again. If it still fails, try the alternative code above.
  • Changed menus: networks update USSD menus often. If an option has moved, look for "My Number", "My Account" or "Account Information".
  • Barred line: if your SIM was restricted (for example, over NIN-SIM linking), some services may not respond until the issue is fixed at your network's customer care.

Which Network Is a Number? (Nigerian Prefixes)

The first four digits of a number usually show the network it was registered on:

  • MTN: 0703, 0706, 0803, 0806, 0810, 0813, 0814, 0816, 0903, 0906, 0913, 0916 (also 07025, 07026, 0704)
  • Glo: 0705, 0805, 0807, 0811, 0815, 0905, 0915
  • Airtel: 0701, 0708, 0802, 0808, 0812, 0901, 0902, 0904, 0907, 0911, 0912
  • 9mobile (T2): 0809, 0817, 0818, 0908, 0909

Note: because of number portability, someone can move their number to a different network and keep the same prefix. The prefix shows where the number started, not always where it is now.

USSD codes like *663#, *135*8#, *121# and *248# don't place a call, so they're the best option when you're low on airtime. Calling or flashing a friend to see your number does use airtime.
