Meta Muse Voice: Video Chat With Your AI Avatar Live
Meta's AI agent Muse can now talk back. With the new Muse Voice feature, you can call or video chat with your Muse and have a real-time, back-and-forth conversation, complete with an animated avatar that reacts as you speak. It's now available to everyone in the US.
What is Meta Muse?
Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, available as the Muse from Meta app. It's different from the Meta AI chatbot inside WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. Muse can connect to apps you use, take on tasks for you, and remembers things over time.
What Muse Voice adds
- Real-time conversations: talk to your Muse naturally instead of typing.
- Video chat with an avatar: your Muse appears as an animated character that uses subtle expressions and gestures to match the tone of the conversation.
- Choose its look: the default avatar is nicknamed "Jolly", but you can change it to look more like a person, an animal or another character.
- Customise how it sounds: you can pick and prompt the voice and style.
- Ask questions or hand off tasks during the call.
Meta says it is powered by two new models, Muse Realtime Avatar and Muse Realtime Voice. Muse can hear you but cannot see you.
Where it works
- Available on mobile, web and Mac.
- Rolling out to everyone in the US.
- Meta says it will also come to its AI glasses and the upcoming Muse Charm device, but hasn't given dates.
Meta first showed the feature at its Connect conference in September and has now opened it up to all US users.
What this means for you
In the US: update the Muse from Meta app and tap the phone icon to start a voice or video chat. It works much like Gemini Live or ChatGPT voice, but with an animated character on screen.
In Canada and Nigeria: Muse Voice is US-only for now. Meta hasn't announced when it will reach other countries.
Also, think about what you connect. Muse works best when it has access to your apps, so only link the accounts you're comfortable sharing.
