YouTube Moves Subscriptions Tab: How to Find Subs Now
Opened YouTube today and can't find your Subscriptions tab? You're not alone. YouTube has started rolling out a big redesign of its mobile app on Android and iPhone, and the Subscriptions button is gone from the bottom bar. It's now a Subs tab inside the Home page. Here's what changed and how to find your subscribed channels.
What changed in the new YouTube app
- Subscriptions has moved to Home. It's now called Subs and sits in a new bar at the top of the Home page, right next to Home.
- A simpler bottom bar. The bottom menu now has four buttons: Home, Shorts, Create (+) and your Profile.
- New top bar feeds. Alongside Home and Subs, you get feeds like Live and Music, with more options under More.
- No more side menu. The old slide-out navigation drawer has been removed.
- More Shorts on Home. Shorts now take up a big part of the Home feed.
How to find your Subscriptions on YouTube now
The new top bar hides itself a couple of seconds after you open the app, which is why many people think Subscriptions has disappeared.
- Open the YouTube app and stay on Home.
- Pull down slightly on the feed to show the top bar.
- Tap Subs to see the latest videos from channels you follow.
The Subs page itself looks the same as the old Subscriptions page, so your channels and the "All" list are still there.
How to see fewer Shorts on Home
If the Shorts are too much, tap the three-dot menu near the top bar and choose Show fewer Shorts. YouTube will confirm the change, and you can tap Undo if you change your mind.
Custom feeds: build your own Home tab
YouTube is also adding custom feeds. You tap the + at the top of Home and describe what you want to watch in plain words, such as a topic, a type of video or certain channels. YouTube then creates a new feed tab for it.
- Free users can keep up to 3 active custom feeds.
- YouTube Premium members can keep up to 8.
- A custom feed expires after 30 days without use.
For now, custom feeds are only for signed-in users in the US with English as the language. YouTube says more countries will follow, so users in Nigeria and Canada may have to wait.
What this means for you
If you mainly use YouTube to follow your favourite creators, the update adds one extra step: pull down and tap Subs. If you like discovering new videos, custom feeds could make Home much more useful once they reach your country. Creators should also expect fewer views from the subscriptions feed while people get used to the new layout.
