What's new in HyperOS 4
- Soft Light Glass design: a new see-through, glassy look across the system, similar to Apple's Liquid Glass style.
- Lock screen styling with more ways to customise it.
- Notification stacking to keep the notification shade tidy.
- Resizable folders on the home screen.
- Better memory handling: Xiaomi claims memory preloading is up to 33% better even after 8 hours of continuous use, so apps stay open longer instead of reloading.
- Faster gallery scanning: Xiaomi says scanning 10,000 photos is up to 90% faster.
- New AI tools: Xiaomi's new AI assistant, AI Speech Recognition, AI Voice Note and Xiaomi Smart Hub.
- Optimisations for over 100 common everyday scenarios to keep the phone smooth.
How to check for the HyperOS 4 update
- Charge your phone to at least 50% and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Back up your photos and chats (Google Photos, WhatsApp backup).
- Go to Settings > About phone and tap the HyperOS version card.
- Tap Check for updates and install it if HyperOS 4 is available.
If it doesn't show yet, your phone may be in a later wave. Avoid downloading update files from unofficial sites, since a bad file can damage your phone.
Is your phone getting HyperOS 4 in Nigeria?
Xiaomi says the global rollout covers select markets, and Redmi and Poco phones sold in Nigeria normally run the global ROM. If your model is on the list above, the update should arrive in one of the waves. Phones not listed, especially older Redmi Note and Poco models, may not get Android 17.
