WhatsApp Web Introduces ‘Call Back’ Feature for Missed Calls

 In 2021, WhatsApp introduced the voice call feature to its desktop app. Now, the social media platform is reportedly making further updates to enhance the voice and video calling capabilities of its web version.

According to reports, the instant messaging app owned by Meta is rolling out a new 'call back' notification feature to ensure that no missed calls go unnoticed. This update is currently being released to beta users on the Microsoft Store under the new version 2.2323.1.0. Gradually, the feature will be made available to more users worldwide.

Screenshots shared in a WABetaInfo report as show below reveal that the upcoming beta update for WhatsApp web will display a "call back" prompt next to the missed call alert for Windows users. Presently, when a WhatsApp call is missed, it only appears as a missed call alert.

With the new beta update, users will be able to instantly return voice and video calls by simply tapping on the call back icon. To access this feature, beta testers of WhatsApp web must install the latest version 2.2323.1.0 from the Microsoft Store. Some users will also be able to utilize this feature on the previous version, 2.2322.1.0, of WhatsApp web.

Meta reportedly plans to roll out this update globally in the near future, gradually reaching more users over the coming weeks.

Furthermore, following the generative AI trend, Meta intends to integrate WhatsApp with chatbots similar to ChatGPT, allowing users to engage with them in various personas. Additionally, the company recently announced its progress in testing AI-powered tools for generating image backgrounds and variations of written copy for advertising campaigns.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is currently beta testing the display of profile icons alongside messages in group chats.
